In case you haven’t heard, Flavor Flav is opening a chain of fried chicken spots! The wheels were set in motion yesterday (January 24) as the first restaurant opened in the small town of Clinton, Iowa! But why Clinton, Iowa?
Well, that is a question that has had me scratching my head since I’ve first heard of the venture, but thanks to local business partner and friend Nicki Cimino the midwest gets a flavor of Flav’s Fried Chicken! I’m also not personally complaining because I live in Clinton, Iowa!
Not only is it located in a small town in the middle of nowhere, but the building sits right next door to an already established chicken chain that some of you may have heard of called Kentucky Fried Chicken! Does FFC (Flav’s Fried Chicken) have what it takes to stand toe to toe with the colonel?!
If the grand opening was any indication, I would say so! But what sets FFC apart from KFC and other fried chicken chains? Well, Flavor Flav is not just a celebrity throwing money into an investment, he is developing his own seasonings, which don’t only go in the outer batter layer, but the chicken itself is seasoned first and then covered by the seasoned batter!
What makes Flav qualified to create his own seasonings? Perhaps the fact that he graduated with a culinary degree in 1978 and hasn’t stopped cooking since!
With a line going out the door and filtering down the block, I took my place in back and waited, waited… and waited some more to get my first taste of FFC! Flavor Flav was in attendance indoors doing his thing, taking pictures and even dropping a couple freestyles here and there to show he still has it!
When I made my way through the door the first thing that popped was that not only was Flavor Flav actually here, but the place is decked out and consumed by murals of the rap legend done by local artist Edwin Baily! The spot is very Hip Hop oriented in style, and even had a live DJ kicking it in full while everyone enjoyed their meals!
All in all it was a live and fun experience! The chicken is good, and you really do get a kick from the heavily seasoned birds. I’d recommend everyone to stop by and try the Flavor-ist Flav‘d chicken around!
And don’t forget to look me up when you come through town! Bet you didn’t know I’m Whoo Kid’s best kept secret!
