The good folks at RocNation sent over this video from Hugo, a creepy, horror movie style visual for an acoustic rock remake of “99 Problems.” While we love Rick Rubin‘s original classic beat, this rendition seems fitting for the age of mashups. What do you think about it?
On a side note, if your’e not familiar with England-born, Thailand-raised Hugo, he was once the lead singer for the ’90s rock band Valentine and released a few solo albums over the years. Critics have compared his voice to Journey’s Steve Perry… and this guy can REALLY sing! If you’re a fan of classic rock at all, look up some of Hugo’s past albums (although some are now considered collectors items, and you may have to pay a pretty penny to get them!).
They call what Hugo has done in the past AOR, or album-oriented rock. To me, this means he can put together a full body of work, and not just pump out singles. Hopefully the new direction can get this guy where he needs to be! Of course, Whoo Kid will just like the chick fight in the video!
