When people talk about the “grind” and “hustle” of the music business, Grammy-winning rock band Kings of Leon is probably one of the most talked about success stories these days. Longtime fans (journalists and celebrity bloggers included) are giving kudos across the board to this group for their recent climb into the American mainstream, since their years of hard work have brought them to this point.
What is a little unusual about Kings of Leon is that their fanbase really does seem to transcend all types of boundaries. Earlier this year they posted on their myspace page that they’d made the record for most digital album sales ever in the UK, surpassing Amy Winehouse. Not bad for some boys from Tennessee. They say that the average “overnight success” takes 10 years, and considering the four brothers started the group in 1999, they are on point!
Even though they’ve openly called American people “dumb” for listening to too much “Hip Hop and Kiddy Pop” (a diss geared toward radio programming most likely) those same dumb fans still love Kings of Leon.
The video above is their live performance of “Use Somebody” on Today. The song just became a Top 10 hit, even though it’s been around for quite a while. Enjoy!
