What happens when producer/writer/director Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney team up? With any luck, it’ll be magic for Memorial Day weekend 2010! Above is the first trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, based upon the 2003 video game in the long-running Prince of Persia game series. The story follows Prince Dastan (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) in his quest to save the world from an evil sandstorm.
Of course every prince has to have a lady, and in Daston’s case the heroine is rival royalty – a princess named Tamina, played by Gemma Arterton (RocknRolla). Co-stars include veteran actors Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina, along with Tobey Kebbell (RocknRolla), Reece Ritchie (10,000 BC) and UK television star Richard Coyle.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is directed by Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Love in the Time of Cholera, Donnie Brasco); with a screenplay by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard (The Uninvited) and screen story by Boaz Yakin (Remember the Titans, Hostel I & II) and original video game writer Jordan Mechner.
That’s quite an odd mix-up of talent, so it should be good! Incidentally, writers Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro will be meeting back up on the big screen in Summer 2010 with actors Alfred Molina and Tobey Kebbell for The Sourcerer’s Apprentice starring Nicolas Cage.
