Angelina Jolie’s new movie Salt is slated for release Summer 2010, and they’ve just released a trailer for it. The fiery actress plays a CIA agent who is accused of being a Russian spy, and must fight to prove who she really is. The cool part is that Tom Cruise was originally cast in the lead role (as Edwin Salt), and was replaced by Jolie in 2008.
There is a formidable writing team involved on Salt with Kurt Wimmer, who worked on both Street Kings and Law Abiding Citizen, and is rumored to be directing the upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie, and Brian Helgeland, who wrote screenplays for L.A. Confidential, Man on Fire and Circue du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant. Helgeland also wrote and directed Mel Gibson’s 1999 thriller Payback.
Directed by Phillip Noyce (Catch a Fire, The Bone Collector), Salt co-stars Liev Schreiber (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Omen ‘06), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Inside Man, American Gangster, 2012), Yara Shahidi (Imagine That) and Gaius Charles (Friday Night Lights).
I’m always up for a good action flick, so marking this as a must-see for next Summer!!

Here is the synopsis for Salt from Sony:
Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) is a CIA officer who swore an oath to duty, honor, and country. When she is accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy, Salt goes on the run to clear her name and ultimately prove she is a patriot. Using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative, she must elude capture and protect her husband, or the world’s most powerful forces will erase any trace of her existence.
