On September 23, VH1 taped their 2009 Hip Hop Honors in Brooklyn, New York, which will air on the network on October 13. Def Jam was the honoree of the evening, with dozens of the label’s past and present artists and executives in attendance.

In the video above, RadioPlanet.tv asked some of the world’s most beloved artists and DJ’s walking the carpet which Def Jam artist was the most influential on their career, and we got a variety of respectable answers!

Noticeably absent were Jay-Z and LL Cool J, although LL’s opening tribute number featuring Eminem was arguably the best of the evening. On October 13, fans nationwide will be treated to performances by Method Man and Mary J. Blige, Ja Rule and Ashanti, Ludacris, Rick Ross, EPMD, DMX, Public Enemy, Onyx and Warren G withÂ Trey Songz, with back up band action from The Roots, Street Sweeper Society and Gym Class Heroes.
