Denzel Washington is back in January 2010 with the Hughes Brothers‘ new post-apocalyptic film The Book of Eli. Written by former PC Gamer magazine editor Gary Whitta, the story follows Washington’s character Eli as he struggles across what is left of America. His mission is to protect a book that holds the secret to saving the human race.
The Book of Eli also stars Gary Oldman, Jennifer Beals, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone, Rome) and Michael Gambon (best known as Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films). Rumor has it that Twilight star Kristen Stewart actually had Mila Kunis role of Solara first, but had to back out due to scheduling conflicts with the New Moon filming.
I smell a geek-fest brewing as Examiner.com published a story yesterday suggesting that The Book of Eli strongly resembles the video game series Fallout. Considering writer Gary Writta’s past gaming profession, it’s not such a reach. [Click here to read the article on Examiner.com].
It’s definitely good to see Albert and Allen Hughes back in the saddle after a nearly eight-year directorial hiatus (their last directed film was From Hell in 2001), especially with a film that appears to be so epic.
On another note, do you think with movies like Knowing, I Am Legend, Doomsday and The Day After Tomorrow, and upcoming films like The Road [click here to watch trailer] or 2012 [click here to watch trailer] that Hollywood may be overdoing the apocalyptic theme? Cast your vote and let us know!
